Very good vet by Elizabeth K. at InsiderPages
I took my cat in and it turned out he had an upper respiratory infection and needed antibiotics. Dr. Allen was quick and effecient, while thorough. I priced office visits at abut four vets before settling on 5th Ave Cat Clinic, and they charge about the same as any other vet in the Park Slope area. What I really appreciated about 5th Ave however was that they did not try to push additional products or unnecessary tests on me like other vets. This was actually the first time I've ever taken an animal to the vet and not ended up being guilted into all kinds of other amazingly expensive items. I plan to make 5th Ave my regular vet. I also appreciated the fact that Dr. Allen took several minutes to ask me about the details of my cat's illness before we took him out of the carrier so that he could be examined. Usually the vet tech takes the cat out, pokes and prods and then leaves me in the examining room with the cat out of the carrier for 20 minutes before the vet comes in, which causes the cat undue stress. 5th Ave is also great because it only treats cats so there aren't any barking dogs, etc, in the waiting room. Great vet!

Vaccinated without consultation by Beth S. at InsiderPages
I took a stray kitten I'd found in for a general checkup. He was incredibly underweight. I hoped to find out he was disease free, take him home and plump him up, and then later when he was stronger start vaccinations. Without consulting me, after the exam, the vet gave him the vaccine shot. Unforgivable.

bad business
After I moved to Park Slope, my vet in Manhattan (Manhattan Cat Specialists -- amazing cat vets) called to forward my cat's prescription for her special food. 5th Ave Cat Clinic refused to sell me the food unless I brought my cat in for a visit. My cat has a prescription and does not need another check up right now. The receptionist did not ask for her records, or when she was last in for a check-up, after confirming with someone in the office, she advised me that they simply refused to sell me the food.

Go Somewhere Else That Actually Cares
I was a loyal customer to the Fifth Ave Cat Clinic for about three years. Several months ago my cat had some complications and was in severe pain. I called the Fifth Ave Cat clinic to explain that I needed to get her in to see a vet asap. They told me that it was impossible to get her in today. I was told that they had no openings. I told them it was an emergency and my cat was in pain. They acted like they could care less and that I could bring her in the next day. I told them to shove it. I was extremely frustrated that they made little or no attempt to let me bring her in. I know that they could have rescheduled a routine appointment in order to attend to the urgent matter with my cat. There was not even an attempt made. That is unacceptable. I also noticed that before this incident with my cat, the staff was getting worse and showed less concern for the animals and were not very professional on the phone. Go someplace else that is actually concerned about your pet.

Stay Away!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET!!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE! My beloved cat had FIP, and i took my kitty there because one of my friends worked as a vet tech there ( she actually quit because the doctor turned out to be a complete a.....). We took our cat for an ultrasound, and it was very important to us to find out the results ASAP considering the severity of the disease and the fact that the animal was suffering (we eventually had to put him to sleep). The doctor promised that the results would be back on Tue (the procedure was done Sun), however when tuesday came about the results were not it and we were informed that they were lost by the radiologist. Which later turned out to be a LIE. Just so it happens that the doctor forgot to send in the test on monday, thus the results were a day late. We paid 400 dollars for this procedure, VERY PRICEY, and he refused to give us even a portion of the money back. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They will take your money and not care about your animal. BTW, when i first told him about my kitty, he said "you should put him down as soon as possible, to prevent the other cat from getting infected." If he cared about anything else except his money he would have never said that!

Pros: the receptionist was sweet
Cons: the vet is greedy, too expensive, do not care about the emotional attachment to the animal

Not happy with boarding
I boarded my cat for 6 days while away for Thanksgiving. The price of $25 a day seemed fine, until I told them that my cat needs a pill given to him twice a day, a task that takes two seconds as he is quite familiar to the process and does not give you any complaints. Because he is a ?medical board? the price more than doubled to $52.50 a day.Other boarding places charged an additional $10 for this service or it was included. But because it's a vets office and there are no dogs, I went ahead and booked it so that my animal would not be stressed. The closing time varies so I had to drop him off really early and was not able to pick him up on the day that I returned because it was too late. I picked him up the next day an hour after they opened and was charged the entire $52 for that day. I asked if that could be discounted and was told it is a day-in day-out policy. Also when I was on vacation I got a message from them, saying that the cat had an infected cut on his face and they wanted to sedate him and clean the wound and give him antibiotics, and this would cost me $370. I was very distressed by this and because I was out of the country I did not receive the message until the day that I was traveling back home. When I went to pick him up I was told that because I did not respond to the message, the procedure was not done, but that he was given antibiotics and the wound was fine. I did have to pay an additional $71 dollars for the vet exam and antibiotics. When I asked the doctor he just said that they get stressed and that happens sometimes. So I get my cat home pick him up to love him and he stinks of urine! When I went to get him I had noticed that the glass wall of his cage was dirty, so he must of sprayed the cage and they did not clean it. I had to give the cat a bath he smelled so bad. So all together I was not happy.I dropped off a perfectly fine cat and got back a stinky cat with a cut on his face that needed antibiotics.
